Parades are a large part of the Disney parks experience. The holiday parade is no different. In Magic Kingdom the parade is featured every evening during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party for exclusive viewing. For those who can make it to the parks but not to the Christmas Party Disney has showings of the parade during the afternoon (instead of Festival of Fantasy) in the weeks leading up to Christmas and for a few days after.
But never fear, even if you can’t make it to the parks for Christmas this year you can still experience some of the Disney Holiday magic right in your own home. Over the past few days Disney has been busy live taping the Florida Christmas parade for the ABC audiences across the country. This footage is mixed in with the Disneyland footage that was filmed in November.
[ezcol_2fifth]This year there’s a bit of a twist on the tradition this year. Rather than just being Disney’s Christmas Parade it’s now Disney’s Frozen Christmas Celebration. Now some of the grownup fans of Disney are shaking their heads and groaning at the changes, but others are likely dancing around their houses in glee singing versions of Let it Go at the top of their young voices.
When the parade airs you’ll see Kristoff riding down Main Street in a sleigh (not pulled by a Reindeer), Olaf and a whole cast of dancers performing to the tune of “In Summer”, which makes two-parade appearance for the Snowman. Elsa and Anna, and a bunch of little princesses, will be riding on the traditional castle float that used to feature the other Disney princesses. Elsa will be adding a bit of her magic to the parade, but that will be a surprise that will have to wait for the broadcast.
Don’t worry though, the rest of the princesses still get to participate in the parade. Cinderella will be in the golden carriage from her upcoming movie, Ariel and Eric are riding along in their buggy, as will Tiana and Naveen. Aladdin and Jasmine will be on horseback this year as will Merida and Queen Elinor. Rapunzel and Flynn and Snow White and Prince Charming will ride a float from the MSEP and finally Belle and the Beast and the rest of the princess pairs follow on the Garden float from Festival of Fantasy. Sadly Belle will not be donning her traditional Christmas dress for the televised parade, but she usually does for the classic version.
And just to make things even more interesting, there will be other Disney Extras in the parade including a Star Wars float with fan favorites from Darth Vader to Chewbacca, a Club Penguin float and a Big Hero 6 parade with Hiro and Baymax. The parade even features the fire breathing clockwork dragon Maleficent from the Festival of Fantasy Parade. This float is the tallest Christmas float to ever debut at Walt Disney World. It’s so tall that they had to recreate the traditional Main Street USA garlands to fit the colossal creature.
Added to all of this are the traditional Walt Disney World Christmas floats from Santa Clause to the Toy Soldiers. And as for the portion of the Parade from California: this year Disney decided to do something a bit different. In the past both parks showed their Holiday parade, but now the California half of the show will be a Christmas version of Mickey’s Soundsational Parade.
So now that the parade has been filmed in both parks, its up to Disney to weave the two together. You know they’ll be adding in a little bit of extra magic while they’re at it. I won’t be in the parks on Christmas this year, but you can be I’ll be watching the parade on Christmas Day! Will you?
Oh, and just in case you didn’t catch last years viewing of the show I have a link I found for you!
